Introduction

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have a defining influence on the variety in the food sector. With up to 250 employees and less than 50 million Euro of turnover per annum they cannot build up an own research department. The results of research projects and a constant ambition for innovation is still a “must” for these enterprises. Hence, FIS Europe would like to form the bridge between science and business. With support of the EU and own means the participation in different research projects is realised. In the discussion of the scientists the interests of the SMEs are introduced. Nevertheless, big enterprises should not be excluded, but normally their needs are covered internally.

Food allergies in Europe: This research project connects different disciplines to gain more knowledge about the prevalence, the basis and the economical factors of food allergies in Europe. Therefore medical aspects as well as analysis of triggers or social aspects of concerned persons’ life are taken into consideration respectively. Thus all interest groups are involved into the project.
